WRX Boost, Tires and Turns

When Kylo Ren drives, he drives a Subaru WRX

One of our subscribers mentioned in a comment that he thought I looked like Kylo Ren from Star Wars. Now that you mention it, I guess I do look a bit like Kylo Ren. Do you see any resemblence in the photo above? Anyway, let’s move on to the serious business of turbos amd the Subaru WRX at hand.

In our latest video I discuss winter tire and coilover selection for the WRX and have some fun boosting through tunnels and taking touge style turns.

Winter Tire Selection
I chose the Continental Extreme Winter Contact winter only tire for its incredible road holding capabilities in extreme winter driving conditions. The tire also performs exceptionally well in wet weather and on icy roads. Because the tire is winter only and made from a very soft compound, it’s not advisable to run this tire in any environment except during the cold and winter months. This tire will reduce handling and cornering performance on dry roads due to its winter only compound. As far as winter driving is concerned, you can’t beat the Continental Extreme Winter Contact tire for your WRX.

Coilover Selection
I chose the TEIN Street Basis coilovers for my 2014 Subaru WRX Hatchback. The Street Basis coilovers provide greatly improved cornering ability and ride height adjustments for your WRX. The ability to adjust the height of your car quickly and easily is a big plus when you’re trying to dial in just the right look for your ride. The Street Basis coilovers do provide a great handling improvement over the stock suspension with a noticeably stiffer feeling ride. At this price point, I don’t believe you can find a better coilover for your money than the TEIN Street Basis.

Now check out the video as we put the Subaru through its paces on a rainy day in Chicagoland, blasting through tunnels and touge style turns.
